Project Details
The proposal seeks to convert a stone haybarn built in the 19th century to create a modern family home in Surrey. The lightweight timber frame additions delicately attach to the original form, increasing the internal footprint to create new living and working spaces.
The perimeter stone wall will be kept in place, with the pitched extension sitting delicately behind, with its cedar shingle cladding slivering over time to blend with the bargate stone. A timber framed glass walkway allows the property to open out onto the private northern courtyard, while to the south, a single storey cedar shingle clad pod protrudes out into the garden to create a new family dining space.
The project keeps sustainability at the heart of the scheme, co-ordinating a new air source heat pump with solar panels and underfloor heating. Recycled insulation and natural clay plasters help reduce the impact of the building works and create a healthy, breathable building.
